THE WINDOW ROCK

It is situated in the Big glen of Kostino village, in a region with extraordinary landscape. It represents a natural landform, which was formed by the flowing water below it. Its height is about 10m, length is 15 m and the width is 7m. The upper layer is 1.5 m thick. The three columns are equal in height, formed of solid volcanic tuffs. The upper layer is white, formed of thin-layered white limestone, which is resistant to the processes of erosion. This is why it stays above the columns.

The window rock was formed in the same geological period as the Stone Wedding and the mushroom rocks, of similar materials and in a similar way. It was designated as a national natural landmark with state order No 415/12.08.1979, covering an area of 2 decares.

The region of the Big glen of Kostino villiage is where you can find one of the most beautiful types of agates in the East Rhodopes. They are a must in every mineral collection.
