The Thracian tomb of Sveshtari

The Thracian tomb of Sveshtari is a 3rd century BC burial mound of the ancient Thracian people. It is located 2.5 km to the southwest of the village of Sveshtari, in Razgrad Province, in northeast Bulgaria. The tomb was discovered in 1982, and contains decor that is considered unique. The Thracian tomb of Sveshtari was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site during the 9th session of the World Heritage Committee in Paris, France, on 2-6 December, 1985. The decor of the Thracian tomb of Sveshtari includes polychrome half-human, half-plant caryatids and painted murals. The high relief female figures and decoration of the lunette in its vault are the only example of this type of decoration to be found in Thracian lands.
